Dead line for waivers June 1st

 LVMS & MBMS Waivers

In order to have accurate enrollment numbers and plan for the 2018-19 school year, both LaVenture and Mount Baker Middle schools have set deadlines for accepting waivers, as follows:

Waivers for 2018-19 School Year - In the MVSD, all students are assigned to a “home” school based on their address. If parents want their child to attend a different school within the district, then they must submit a “School Change within the MVSD” form (or a “waiver form”) and submit it to the school they are requesting to attend (If a student is assigned to LaVenture but wishes to attend Mount Baker, the waiver form goes to Mount Baker, and vice-versa). Both middle schools require that any student wishing to waiver into a school other than their home school submit waiver request forms no later than June 1st, 2018 in order to be considered for a change in schools. Principals will respond to all waiver requests by July 1st, 2018.

You can get a “School Change within the MVSD” form online at the MVSD website under the tab “forms”. For more information on our waiver protocol, you can go to the LaVenture or Mount Baker website, or contact the school directly.

Students currently enrolled as 6th and 7th graders at either MBMS or LVMS, in the 2017-18 school year who wish to change schools for the 2018-19 school year must submit waiver requests no later than June 1st, 2018 to the school into which they desire to transfer. These requests will receive consideration, dependent upon the student’s behavioral, attendance and academic standing at their previous school, as well as space available.

  • Students currently enrolled as 5th graders at any elementary school in the MVSD must submit waiver requests no later than June 1st, 2018. These requests will receive consideration, dependent upon the student’s behavioral, attendance and academic standing at their previous school, as well as space available.

  • Students currently enrolled as 6th and 7th graders at either MBMS or LVMS and who are currently on a waiver do not have to submit a waiver request to remain at their current school. However, the school reserves the right to deny continuation of the waiver based upon the student’s behavioral and academic standing and space availability. A student choosing to return to their home school, or one whose waiver has been denied, will no longer be eligible to apply for a waiver throughout their time as a middle school student in the Mount Vernon School District.

  • Waivers for students not enrolled in the MVSD will be accepted until August 1st, 2018. Out-of- district waivers will be considered on an individual basis and are dependent upon the student’s behavioral, attendance and academic standing at their previous school, as well as space available at the school they are requesting. Plan on two weeks for the District to process an out-of-district waiver request. These DO need to be renewed yearly at the home district.
